Cautionary Note for Would be I-Phone Consumers

Reports from the US suggest Apple seems to
be having a little local difficulty with the iPhone 3G. The super-popular
handset has left some consumers posting complaints on Apple online forums
describing difficulties maintaining a signal. Some analysts have speculated that
the root of the problem could be Infineon chipset.
“We believe these issues are typical
of an immature chipset and radio protocol stack where we are almost certain
Infineon is the 3G supplier,” wrote Richard Windsor, an analyst at Nomura.
If he’s proved right, Apple may not be
able to fix the problem with a simple software update.
