Latest GfK figures show the 10 most popular handsets accounted for just 25 per cent of all phones sold in Europe last year.

Five years ago, the top 10 accounted for half the market. GfK said such fragmentation was a result of the technological development of phones to cater for individual preferences. 3G, it said, is still to reach 30 per cent penetration in European markets, although average consumer spending on 3G is 30 per cent higher. The figures also show mobile entertainment revenues increased 17 per cent from 2006 to €1.7 billion, with full track downloads counting for 54 per cent of all mobile downloads.
