Phones 4U will double its market share in the direct market after its acquisition of online retailer Dial-a-Phone in a deal thought to be worth around 9 million pounds.
4U Group chief executive Tim Whiting said: “Acquiring Dial-a-Phone will double our share in this sector to 10 per cent to help us achieve a bigger presence online and through the national press. “We have a very strong retail presence on the high street and Dial-a-Phone has a good hold on the direct market. We believe it will play a significant part in the continued expansion of our mobile phone distribution business. “We’re always looking to further our growth in that sector, so it made sense to make the acquisition.” The two companies will run as separate brands in the immediate future. Dial-A-Phone’s 300 staff, based in London and Northampton, are “in consultation” following the purchase. The deal will close on February 29.
